Salmari

Salmari - More information about the German spirits brand

This dark liqueur has its business home in the heart of Berlin's Prenzlauer Berg district, on Pappelallee. The Salmari GmbH company is responsible for the brand. The company has succeeded in taking a niche product – salmiak liqueur – out of the "convenience store" category and establishing it in upscale gastronomy.

Although the legal headquarters and distribution are located in Berlin, the DNA of the product remains Nordic. Salmari is a premium salmiak liqueur whose recipe is based on the Finnish tradition of "Salmiakki." The Berlin-based GmbH acts as the link that makes this unique taste culture accessible and manages it for the European market.

In contrast to many mass-market liqueurs, Salmari focuses on a refined profile. The base consists of licorice root extract and salmiak salt. Artificial flavors are not used. A technical characteristic is the comparatively low sugar content, which makes the consistency more fluid than that of syrupy competing products.

The liqueur is bottled at 25% ABV. The aroma is described as a balance between sweet and salty, with the spicy salmiak note dominating. Salmari is primarily designed to be enjoyed as an ice-cold shot, but the Berlin bar scene is increasingly using it as an ingredient in long drinks (e.g., with ginger beer) and as a flavoring component in cocktails (e.g., in combination with gin or vodka).
